Mary Jane Medicine Crow was born on April 3, 1955 in Eagle Butte, SD to Marilyn Pomani. She was fortunate to have been influenced by both her fathers, Delbert Pomani, Sr. and Alex Fogg. While attending the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, she met and married Clyde David Kannon and was blessed with two daughters, Sybil and Jessica. She served her country with the United States Navy before exploring the countryside. Although she traveled and explored the United States from coast to coast, she grew to love Catalina Island. During her travels, she met and married Jerome Bellas in Oceanside, CA where she enjoyed watching the sunrise on the beach over the Pacific horizon with a cup of coffee. Besides traveling and exploring new places, she loved to express her creativity through all arts and craft projects. She shared her gift and taught others how to bead, sew, and paint. She cherished her heritage and told many stories of her Native culture. She had a genuine love and cared for all Wakan Tanka's creatures and could be found every morning feeding her birds. After her mother's passing, she returned home to the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation to continue the tradition of opening her home for family, friends, and even the occasional traveler. She was known to many as Auntie, Grandma Mary or sister Mary.
Mary continued her journey during the late hours on March 2, 2009 from the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. She is survived by two daughters Sybil Kannon Schultz, grandchildren Tayler and Dakota, and Jessica Kannon Dennis, grandchildren James, Jade, and Austin. Mary's brothers and sisters include Linda Pomani, Delbert Pomani Jr., Elizabeth Pomani, Frank Pomani, Glen Pomani, Helen Pomani, Tonia Pomani Campbell, Deanna Pomani, and James Joseph Fisher. She had many nieces and nephews she loved very much. Last, she is survived by her people and will continue to live on in our hearts. Mary Jane was welcomed home by her parents Marilyn Pomani and Delbert Pomani, Sr.
