Funeral services for Margaret "Peggy" Healy, 92, of Chamberlain will be Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will be Monday at St. James Catholic Church beginning at 5 pm with a rosary at 7 pm and a scripture service at 7:30 pm.
Margaret Catherine "Peggy" Jira was born February 7, 1920 to John and Myrtle (Thompson) Jira at Kimball, SD. She was raised and attended school in Kimball. She then moved to Chamberlain and worked at the Derby Café which she thoroughly enjoyed. She spoke often of the many friends she made and celebrities that she encountered while working there.
Peggy resided at the Ellen Healy rooming house where she met Ellen's son Martin. The two were married in January of 1942 in Little Rock, Arkansas where Martin was stationed in the Army. When Martin returned from the service, the couple managed the Red Owl Store in Kimball for a few years before moving to Chamberlain and later opening Healy's Market on Main Street
Peggy worked at various jobs throughout her life including at Kramer's Department Store, Al's Oasis, and St. Joseph's Indian School.
She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and doing word finds and crafts.
Peggy passed away on April 6, 2012 at Aurora-Brule Nursing Home at the age of 92 years. Gratefully sharing in her life are her children Patti (Lloyd) Ross and Mike Healy of Chamberlain, Sue Ziegler of Lower Brule, Kathy Martin of Mitchell, Lorene (Vince) Moeller of White Lake, and Tim (Alan) Healy of Kennebec; 13 grandchildren Treon Fleury, Tyra Fleury, Adrian Medicine Crow, Bryan Ziegler, Bill Ziegler, Hollie Fallis, Randall Dawkins, Daniel Dawkins, Jason, Doug, Greg, Lance, and Scott Moeller; 26 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Agnes Deal of Pierre. Preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers Melvin, John Jr. "Jack", Harold, and Robert Jira; two sisters Julie Eaton and Dorothy Gillen; three grandsons; a great grandson and a great granddaughter.
