Funeral services for Wendell L. "Windy" Johnson, 62, of Fort Thompson will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the Fort Thompson Community Building in Fort Thompson with burial in the Christ Episcopal Cemetery at Fort Thompson. Wake services will be 8:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Fort Thompson Community Building in Fort Thompson, SD.
Wendell Loren Johnson "Windy" was born on March 21,1960 to Alvina "Vina" Slow and Kermit Comes Flying, Sr. Windy attended Headstart in Fort Thompson, SD. He also attended grade school 1st - 5th grade at Fort Thompson Elementary school. He attended Junior high and some high school at Stephan Mission School, receiving high GED at United Tribes Technical College, Bismarck, ND while attending college for Chef (Food Service) where he received his degree for food service.
Windy was employed and cooked for the Crow Creek Head Start, Crow Creek Tribal Schools, Lode Star Casino, 1-90 Truck Stop in Mitchell, SD, The Diner on Phillips Ave, Sioux Falls, SD, Red Rossa Cafe and Golden Age Elderly Program of Fort Thompson, SD. Windy also served his Tribe and people by being elected to tribal council and served as Tribal Treasurer from 1992-1994.
Windy lived in various areas within the state of South Dakota; Pierre, Mitchell, Sioux Falls, and Fort Thompson, SD wherever his cooking jobs took him is where he would make camp and live. He touched many lives with
his friendship, his good cooking, laughter, good times and he was always there for his people and relatives when they needed him most. He enjoyed cruising around, visiting with him family and friends, hosting and cooking for all his relatives and helping families with his delicious meals.
Windy will be missed greatly by all those who knew him. Although we will miss him, we will cherish all our memories and all teachings he leaves behind.
Wendell is survived by; Sister Cheryl (Randy) Shields, Myron Johnson, Alvin Slow, Waylon & Kermit Comes Flying, Jr, Special Auntie Phyllis Comes Flying, Cousin Bernie (Cecil) Farmer and family, and many numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his Mother, Alvina "Vina" Slow, Father Kermit Comes Flying, Sr., Brother, Horace "Jr." Slow, Maternal Grandparents, Isabelle Medicine Crow Johnson & Silas "Chubby" Johnson, Paternal Grandparents, Melda Along the Back/Red Water Comes Flying & Floyd Comes Flying, Sr. Aunts; Karen Kirkie, June Drapeau, Alice Johnson & Annette White Mouse, Uncles; Silas "Jay" Johnson, Jr and William "Ernie" Johnson, Sr.
