Funeral services for Wayne Smith, 77, of Kennebec, SD will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 6, 2025 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kennebec, SD with burial in the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery at Kennebec, SD.  Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

On February 27, 2025 Wayne traveled to his heavenly home marking the exact year to the day Wayne's beloved wife, Cheri, joined her Lord and Savior in Heaven.

Harry "Wayne" Smith was born November 3, 1947 in Presho, SD to Alice "Skeets" Smith. Wayne grew up in Kennebec.  He later moved to the Dorman Ranch with his mother and sister Julie.  Wayne served his country joining the National Guard.

He was a devout Catholic. Wayne played guitar and sang at innumerable funerals for friends and family.  Wayne married his true love Cheri Ann Pate on July 1, 1971.  Sharing a happy married life for 53 years.  To this union, they had their precious daughter Tamala Rae "Tam" Smith.  Cheri and Wayne made weekly trips to Sioux Falls Crippled Children's and later Black Hills Special Services where Tam lived.  Special in their hearts was their God daughter Maleigha Estes.

Wayne loved the ranch, cattle, horses, and his dogs Duke (deceased), Bobbi, and Patsy.  He learned to rope at the age of 17 with the help of Don McPeak, a neighbor rancher.  Roping, playing guitar, singing country music, and his dogs were his passions.

Gratefully sharing his life were his daughter Tamala Rae; sister Julie; brother-in-law Dennis and wife Connie; sister-in-law Janet Pate; aunt Mabel Hinz; and many many friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife Cheri, mother Alice "Skeets" Smith, grandparents Harry and Alice Smith, brother-in-law, and several aunts and uncles.
