Todd Vilas Hopkins was born July 19, 1970 to Isabella Walker and had a half sister Crystal Red Hail. He was then later adopted by Vilas and Cora Hopkins Sr in 1971. He had two adopted older siblings: a brother John Hopkins and a sister Grace Hopkins. He lived with them until 1973 when his adopted mother passed away during birth to his sister, Tracy. The family moved around a lot and he was then taken in by his grandmother Margret Hopkins who raised him until her death. He then moved in with Lynn and Ronald Harrison Sr. (Governor of Crow Creek) and their family. He attended school in Chamberlain but dropped out before graduation and went to Job Corp where he became a certified welder.
Todd was known by many names but Gumby was the name that stuck and was known by everyone. He proudly took on the title of Mayor of Crow Creek. He was a handy man, a jack of all trades and he was self-taught on how to fix many things. Gumby was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Through all of this he met the love of his life Joyce Reed and he became an intricate part of their life where he was loved as a father figure. Everyone who came in contact with Gumby has a special memory of their time with him.
Todd passed away on November 20, 2025 at his home. He is survived by the love of his life Joyce Reed and her children; sisters Grace Koch, Neva Taylor, Anna Gourneau, Crystal Flute, Tracy Herbaugh, brother Arnold Hopkins; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceding him in death were his daughter Talia Big Eagle, his parents Vilas Hopkins Sr. and Cora Hopkins and a brother John Hopkins.
