Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 4th, 2024 at 11:00 am at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain.

Interment will be Monday, May 6th at 11:00 am at the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, SD.

Susan Kay Hamilton was born May 1, 1950 to John and Lois Williams in Omaha, Nebraska and grew up in that area. She later attended Creighton University and earned an Early Childhood Education degree. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Michael Hamilton, on November 17, 1978. Mike worked for the Corp of Engineers so the happy couple moved several times but never lived far from the Missouri River. On September 14, 1983, the joy of their lives, their daughter Oakley Lois was born. The family settled in Chamberlain; Mike worked at the dam and Susan worked for the Chamberlain School District and St. Joseph's Indian School.

Susan had a loving heart for all people, but especially for children. She had a kind, gentle spirit and an abundance of quiet patience that made children feel safe and loved in her presence. They brought her such joy, whether in a classroom or at church. In later years, she cherished time spent, and memories made with her beloved grandchildren, Kadence and Evan. She loved taking them on trips, spending time with them after school and on weekends, and texting them love-filled messages (with GIFs) throughout the week.

In 2012, Mike was taken home to Heaven. Although heartbroken, Susan knew where Mike was and had faith that they would be reunited again one day. In the meantime, she focused on living a full and service-centered life. She was dedicated to the Lord, her church, her family, and her many meaningful friendships. She did mission work in Kenya, Africa, helped with her grandchildren, stayed very active in her church and community, enjoyed the outdoors, her pets, and created art in her free time.

When those who knew and loved Susan think of her, they think of her constant warm smile, her love for the Lord and her family, her artistic spirit, her servant heart, and how much she loved The Beatles and Harrison Ford. She brought such love and light to those around her with her positivity and kindness.

On November 25, 2023, Susan was called home to Heaven and reunited with her love, Mike.

Grateful to have shared her life are her daughter, Oakley Hamilton (Brady Goff) of Chamberlain, grandchildren Kadence and Evan Soulek of Chamberlain, Jameson Goff of Pierre, her brother John (Nancy) Williams of Reno, NV, and many close friends.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

A celebration of Susan's life will be held on May 4, 2024 at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain.
