Stanley D. Wellner, 72, of Chamberlain, SD passed away August 23, 2026 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Stan was born November 9, 1953 to George and Lenore (Hart) Wellner.

He grew up on a ranch south of Miller, SD and graduated from Miller High School. He loved hunting and fishing and did so most of his life.

Stan learned at a young age to fit cattle from being in 4-H and showing the family’s show cattle. He went on to make a business out of fitting cattle which he did for many years for area cattle breeders.

In his later years, Stan owned and operated Lee’s Corner north of Chamberlain, better known as the Prairie Chicken.

Stan is survived by his brother Steven and Laura Wellner of Chamberlain and brother Bobby and Rhonda Wellner of Powley, WY along with several nephews and nieces, and a group of life long friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents George and Lenore, sister Tracy Mitchell and brother Merle.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
