Shirley Joan Nelson was born September 12, 1927 at Chamberlain to Oscar and Anna Mae (Powell) Nelson. Shirley lived on the farm south of Chamberlain until she began pursuing her teaching career at the tender age of 17 years. Her first teaching position was at the Bode Country School where she taught all eight grades. She met John "Jack" Feltman, and on June 8, 1947 they were united in marriage. To this union, two children were born Dennis and Jacci.
On June 9, 1970, Shirley was united in marriage to Robert Goldammer. His love of golf drew Shirley to the sport and she played into her 80's.
Shirley was a passionate teacher for over 47 years. Her love of teaching touched many lives. She will remain in the hearts of not only her family who dearly love her, but future generations of parents who were blessed to enter her classroom or sit on her piano bench.
Shirley passed away peacefully on September 2, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center at Chamberlain at the age of 91 years. Gratefully sharing her life are her son Dennis Feltman of Mitchell, SD; daughter Jacci (Ed) Vaiskauskas of Clark, WY; five grandchildren Krista (Jason) Young of Rapid City, SD, Jennifer (Joel) Irwin of Murphy, NC, Rebecca (Jordan) Kitts of Pierre, SD, Erika (Jim) Kratochvil of Seward, NE, and Josh Feltman of Mitchell, SD; 10 great grandchildren: Mac (Heather) Young, Natalie Young, John Young, Caleb Irwin, Caitlynn Irwin, Abbi Kitts, Keegan Kitts, Drew Kratochvil, Libby Kratochvil, and Malcolm Feltman; a great great granddaughter Sawyer Young; brother William (Marilyn) Nelson of Chamberlain, SD; and a very special "gardening" friend Myrna (Paul) Swanson of Chamberlain.
Shirley also left behind numerous nephews and nieces, family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband Robert, her parents, her brother Virgil Nelson, and her first husband John.
