Funeral services for Sanford F. "Mike" Hrabe, 95, of Chamberlain, SD will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Dakota Milestones, 117 E Beebe Ave, Chamberlain, SD 57325.
Sanford Frank Hrabe born December 25, 1925 to Frank and Emma Hrabe on family farm south of Pukwana, SD. He was on the track team and played football for Chamberlain High School graduating in May of 1944. After high school, he went to work on the farm with his father. Sanford met the love of his life in school as they had sat next to each other for many years. Sanford and Lois (Hass), were married June 23, 1946. They had a daughter Sandra Kay Hrabe.
Sanford worked as a farmer for many years. He was elected as a Brule County Commissioner and was a member of the Lion's Club for over 50 years. He was also a member of a local wood carving club and the Itasca Motor Home (RV) Club. He enjoyed collecting and trading antique coins with collector groups in the area.
Sanford and Lois worked tirelessly for the start of the Adjustment Training Center, now known as Dakota Milestone. Sanford loved traveling with Lois and friends internationally and domestically. They made the trip to the Norsk Hostfest in Minot, ND for several years. He enjoyed gardening and of course eating his harvest.
Sanford passed away on September 10, 2021 at the Aurora Brule Nursing Home in White Lake, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his parents Frank Hrabe and Emma Otto.
Sanford is survived by daughter Sandra Hrabe, nieces and nephew Debra Tomlin, Victoria Hass-Buente, Michael Hass, great nieces & nephews, Catie, Chris, TJ and Andi Tomlin, Celeste Perkins and Stephanie Hass, 2 granddaughters Chandler and Ashton Hass-Buente, and 10 great-great nieces & nephews.
Sanford was a very intelligent man full of wisdom but one of few words. He loved deeply and was deeply loved by all.
