Funeral services for Sandra L. Swift Eagle, 75, of Kennebec, SD will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD with burial in the Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery at Lower Brule, SD. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule SD.
Anyone wishing to follow, the procession will leave the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
Sandra Lee Swift Eagle was born on November 7, 1950, at Old Fort Thompson to Vera LaRoche and Andrew Estes. She was adopted and raised by Sidney and Lacey Swift Eagle. She lived in Rapid City, South Dakota while her mom Lacey worked as head cook at Sioux San Hospital. At the age of 18 she relocated to San Jose, California where she met her love Derrick Rainbow, Sr. of San Jose. To this union, their son Derrick R. Rainbow, Jr, was born.
Sandra met David Anderson of San Jose, California and to this union, their son Maka Luta Swift Eagle was born. Sandra moved to Rapid City after a brief stay in Montana. In Rapid City, she taught Lakota traditions part-time to middle and high school students. After many years in Rapid City, she retired. She then moved back to her homelands of Lower Brule, South Dakota. She later moved to Kennebec, South Dakota until her passing surrounded by her neighbors.
She passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026, in Pierre, South Dakota. She is survived by her son Derrick Rainbow, Jr of Honolulu, Hawaii, two sisters Patsy Schuler of Idaho, Dana Huber of Minnesota, niece Jolene LaRoche and family of Lower Brule, niece Ardis Marshall of Sioux Falls, Carol Marshall of Rapid City, cousin Josie Skunk of Lower Brule, cousin Lucille Skunk of Lower Brule, aunt Irene Skunk of Lower Brule as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great- great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her son, Maka Luta Swift Eagle, her parents Vera LaRoche and Andrew Estes, Sidney and Lacey Swift Eagle, sister Caroline Shaw, great- grandson Mathew Reddest, grandson Jamie Marshall, Derrick Rainbow, Sr, David Anderson, and several brothers and sisters.
