Russell Lee Obago was born on January 7, 1973 to Viola (Obago) Eagle Thunder and Edward Harrison in Chamberlain, SD.
Our beloved Russell Lee entered into the Spirit World on June 18, 2020.
Russell grew up and lived in Fort Thompson, SD. He attended Fort Thompson Elementary School and then Crow Creek High School in Stephan, SD. During this time he became a father to Ariana Faye Obago and Alisha Rose Fleury. He dropped out and later received his GED and went on to Job Corps at Kicking Horse in Montana. He graduated from Job Corps with a degree in Cabinetry and Masonry. He then returned to Fort Thompson and was united in marriage to Sunny Big Eagle. To this union, Nicolette Obago was born.
He used his carpentry skills and helped renovate, remodel and rebuild the Project Safe Women's Shelter in 1996.
Russell was also a talented artist and a great drummer. He played in the band called Raven's Moon. He was a very excellent loving caring, guiding, and nurturing father to his daughters whom he loved and cherished very much.
His home was always open to his many friends and relatives. He had a generous and loving heart and all those who knew him, knew this to be true.
He was also very funny and humorous. He could make you laugh and pick you up at any given time. He loved jamming out to Queen, Motley Crue, Slaughter, Tesla, Poison, and all rock bands.
In April 2019, he lost a part of his heart when his daughter Ariana Faye died in a car accident. The loss of his daughter took a heavy toll on him.
He began experiencing health problems which ultimately led to his passing.
We will forever miss, love, and cherish you Brother Russ! Fly high to the angels and may you be at eternal Peace with your momma Vi and daughter Ariana!
