Funeral services of Roland W. "Rollie" Anderson, 66, of Kennebec, SD will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 9, 2023 at the Kennebec Elementary Gymnasium in Kennebec with burial in the Kennebec Cemetery at Kennebec, SD. Visitation will begin Sunday at 5:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service at the Kennebec Lutheran Church in Kennebec, SD.
Roland W. "Rollie" Anderson was born October 18, 1956 at Pierre, SD to Herman and Vernice (Whitney) Anderson. He attended grade school and middle school in Kennebec and graduated from Lyman High School in 1975. After high school, he attended Vo-tech for a year before returning home to work at Brakke Ranches.
Later, he began working for the City of Presho. On October 7, 1989, Rollie was united in marriage to Denise Witlock at Java, SD and they made their home in Presho. He worked for Kennebec Telephone for eight years and then for the Lyman County Assessor's Officefor 13 years. In 1997, Rollie and Denise moved to the family farm.
Most recently, Rollie worked at Dakota Mill & Grain and at the time of his death, he worked for Dakotaland Feeds.
He loved to play softball, playing on the "Lyman County Long Hairs" softball team earning the nickname "scruff". He also enjoyed being on the bowling and golf leagues. He was a huge Green Bay Packers fan, and when you visited their home there was either a sports game or black and white western playing on the TV. He was also a Nebraska Cornhuskers, Atlanta Braves, and Duke Blue Devils fan.
Rollie never missed his children's sports activities during school. He enjoyed hunting with his son, Jared, spending time with his family, and going for drives in the side by side, as well as enjoying time with his daughter, Courtney, when she would come back to visit. His biggest passion was working on the family ranch.
Rollie passed away on October 2, 2023 at Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain, SD at the age of 66 years. Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Denise of Kennebec, SD; son Jared of Pierre, SD; two daughters Courtney Anderson of Virginia Beach, VA and Sheena Rasmussen of Rapid City, SD; a brother Darrell Anderson of Rapid City, SD; and sister-in-law Jean Anderson of Reliance, SD.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, father Herman Anderson, mother Vernice (Whitney) Anderson, and a brother Alton "Lee" Anderson.
