Memorial services for Roger G. DeJong, 89, of Kimball, SD will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at the Pukwana Free Lutheran Church in Pukwana with burial of the ashes at a later date.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.

Roger Gene DeJong was born on July 8, 1936, at Esmond, South Dakota to John and Irene (Hein) DeJong. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Cavour. The family moved to Scio, Oregon where he graduated from high school in 1954. The family later returned to South Dakota and later moved to Minnesota.

In 1971, he moved to Chamberlain, South Dakota and worked on a USGS survey crew. This position took him to Jetmore, Kansas where he met and married Rosa Lee Nuss on May 12, 1974. He then worked for the State of Kansas Highway Commission, and also returned to the USGS living in Blue Grass, Iowa.

His wife, Rosa Lee, passed away on August 18, 1990, at Jetmore, Kansas; from the effects of polio that she had contracted at the age of 13. After spending time in Arizona and Wyoming, he moved to Craig, Colorado. On May 26, 2004, he married Patricia Marie (Doolin) Brannan at Maybell, Colorado. Pat passed away in 2012.

Roger returned to South Dakota in 2015, living in White Lake. In 2021 he moved to Kimball, later moving to Prairie View Assisted Living in 2024. He became a resident of Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake in February 2025.

He was a member of the Pukwana Free Lutheran Church in Pukwana and was an avid fan of hunting organizations.

Roger passed away on October 15, 2025 at the Aurora Brule Nursing Home at White Lake, SD.  Survivors include sisters Arlene (Wayne) Danforth of Alva, Florida and Vicky (Gary Hoing) of Kimball; brothers Loren DeJong of Kimball and Lyndon (Vickie) DeJong of Pierce, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene DeJong; spouses Rosa Lee and Pat; brother Curtis; sister-in-law, Karen DeJong, brother-in-law Ron Walker;
