Funeral services for Roger M. Buum, 91 of Chamberlain will be held Friday, June 26, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Roger Mervin Buum passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 91 on June 24, 2026, at the Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain.

Roger was born May 21, 1935, to Edith (Fickbohm) and Leonard Buum, at home, in Union County, South Dakota.

On May 21, 1956, Roger was united in marriage to Marlys Avon (Dietrich) in Luverne, MN. They lived in the Alcester, SD and Hawarden, IA areas.

They moved their family to Sioux Falls, SD in 1963. Roger was employed by Shanard Grain Elevator in Ellis, SD.

Moving to Chamberlain in 1966, Roger continued working for Shanard Grain Elevator in Reliance, SD, retiring in 1994, with a 31-year career. Roger worked for Agri-Air, Inc., Chamberlain, SD, retiring in 2023, with a 29-year career.

Roger enjoyed vegetable gardening, working in the yard tending to the flowers and Peonie bushes, fishing with his children when they were young, and hunting with his sons.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the board of directors for the church.

Gratefully sharing in his life were his 4 sons; Roger, Dale, Leonard, and Lyle (Tasha), 3 daughters; Mary Ann Mann (Dennis), Sheryl Steckelberg (Duane), and Joyce Hoffer. Brother-in-law Marlyn (Laura) Dietrich of Chesapeake, Virginia. Grandchildren; Dennie, Stacie, Leslie, Kodi, Lyndsie, Jenny, Melissa, Lance, Shane, Michael, Ashley, Brittney, Kayla, Hunter, Tyler, Michael, Christena, Brent, Abriale, and Braeden. They were blessed with 43 great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Avis, his mother and father-in-law, wife Marlys, sons Roger and Dale, grandson Tyler, and daughter-in-law Penny.
