Obituary

Funeral services for Richard D. "Dickie" Ross, 61, of Fort Thompson, SD will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 6, 2023 at the Fort Thompson Tribal Hall in Fort Thompson, SD.  Ashes will be spread at a later date.  Wake services will be Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the Fort Thompson Tribal Hall in Fort Thompson, SD.

Anyone wishing to follow, the procession will leave from funeral home on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (NOON)

Richard "Dickie" Dean Ross was born January 1, 1962 to Gloria Ross (White Mouse). Dickie was a proud member of the Hunkpati Sioux Tribe. He spent his early childhood years in Fort Thompson with his many brothers and sisters. Dickie spent many years as a child in Colorado with his parents Sue Bristow and Bob Donner. He graduated from Crow Creek High School.

He enjoyed a career in farming, working for many different farms, including operating the Crow Creek Tribal Farm. He was a proud tribal councilman for many years. Dickie returned to Colorado to pursue a career as a car salesman and to be closer to his mom Sue and dad Ed Bristow. He spent his later years in Fort Thompson, where he enjoyed fishing, spending time with his pride and joys, his five grandchildren Amyrah, Kaysen, Haley, Reign, and Cante Wasaka Win, and his many beloved dogs.

Dickie had a huge heart and was always willing to help anyone in need, including the many rez dogs he had befriended.  Dickie was a hard worker, a good man, an amazing papa and relative, and was always trying to lift others spirits with his sense of humor.

He journeyed to the spirit world Tuesday February 28 th , 2023 surrounded by love and family. Dickie is survived by his children, Andrea, Loren, and Robert. His five grandchildren, his fiancé Lori Peters, parents Ed and Sue Bristow. Brothers and sisters Ronald Kim Drapeau Sr., Frank Drapeau, Gary Ross Sr, Michael Donner, Mildred "Millie" Ross, Candace "candy" World Turner Bishop, Christine "Doll" Medicine Crow and Helen McGhee Fuerst. Many nieces and nephews and his precious dogs Jake and Sasha.

He was welcomed to the spirit world by his mom Gloria, son Taylor, nephew/son Jeremy Herron and many other beloved family and friends and his special fur baby Napoleon.
