Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.

“Richie with a T”

Richie was born June 26, 1952, to Geraldine Andrews and Richard Medicine Eagle Sr in Rosebud, SD.

He attended grade school in Winner, SD and attended high school in Rosebud, SD. Richie favorite high school sport was track. In 1986, Richie ran the 400-meter dash in 52.9 seconds and the 1600 Meter Relay in 1:16. 32 seconds, setting a new school record. Richie often spoke of his winnings. He was proud of his record.

After graduation, Richie worked for the IRS for 10 yrs in Pittsburg, CA. He made his life there with his children: Shelly Medicine Eagle, Chanda Medicine Eagle, and Duane Medicine Eagle.

In 2007, Richie decided it was time to come home and take care of his mother; Geraldine Andrews, until her passing.

Richie was a simple man. He kept his home in Lower Brule, SD where he lived a simple life entertained with friends and family on a daily and his sister Janelle, who took care of him as he began to show his age as he slowed down.

Richie entered the spirit world on Sunday, July 5, 2026, in his home, leaving behind his 3 children; Shelly Medicine Eagle of AZ, Chanda Medicine Eagle of CA, Duane Medicine Eagle of CA, 2 sisters; Carole Felicia (Leslie Flute), Janelle Medicine Eagle (Bim Estes) of Lower Brule, SD. 1brother; Doyle Medicine Eagle (Laura Bagola) of Sioux Falls, SD. 5 grandchildren: Nina, MaeLani, Jah’Lonie, Scipio, and Naser. Many numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends.

Richie is preceded in death by his parents; Geraldine Andrews and Richard Medicine Eagle Sr. Sisters: Eleanor Andrews, Shirley LaRoche, and Wilma Medicine Eagle. Brother: Timmy Whirlwind Soldier, niece: Alexis LaRoche, Nephews: Evan Grassrope, Maza Grassrope, Granddaughter: Kelsey Grassrope
