Funeral services for Richard T. Hansen, 82, of Reliance, SD will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain, SD. Visitation will begin Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chamberlain, SD.
Richard Thomas Hansen was born September 18, 1942 at Chamberlain, SD to Edward and Helen (Mack) Hansen. He attended elementary school in Reliance and high school at Chamberlain.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard after high school. Richard worked as a farm hand for Albert and Onalee Larsen, where he met his future wife, their daughter Mavis. On June 13, 1964, Richard was united in marriage to Mavis Larsen at Chamberlain, celebrating 60 years of marriage this past summer. They made their home in the Reliance area where Richard worked on many construction jobs including the Big Bend Dam Project and Interstate 90 and later worked at the grain elevator in Reliance. He then began his career with the S.D. Department of Transportation, retiring in 2014.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the Lakers Car Club, Johnson Peterson American Legion Post of Reliance, and the Reliance Coffee Club.
Richard passed away on November 29, 2024 at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain, SD.
Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Mavis Hansen, three sons Todd (Nancy), J.D. (Becky), Dustin (Kevin); daughter Yvette (Darrel) DuVall, brother John (Connie) Hansen; sister Debra (Newell) Kallestad; grandchildren Spencer, Aspen, Kassidy, Grace, Dean, Selah, Morgan, Brayten, Sawyer; step grandchild Terri; great grandchildren Quentin, Wilder, Adeline, Emilia, Delthea; step great grandchildren Quincy and Samantha; and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his sister Beverly and her husband Ralph Hadley.
