Moore, 91, of Chamberlain, SD formerly of Kennebec, SD will be 10:00 am Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Presho, SD with burial in the Kennebec Cemetery at Kennebec. Visitation will begin Thursday at 5:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:00 pm at the Zion Lutheran Church in Presho, SD.
Raymond Moore joined his Lord on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain, SD at the age of 91.
Raymond Orlin Moore was born November 8, 1928 in Presho, SD to Lewie and Leola (Paige) Moore. He attended school in Kennebec through 12th grade, graduating in 1948. He married the love of his life, Jean Faber, on June 1, 1950.
Married for 69 years, Ray and Jean were blessed with four daughters: Betty Jean (Eugene) Mertens of Kennebec, Margie Lynn (Rich) Pierson of Evans, Colorado, Cindy (Steve) Fiechtner of Pierre and Ronda (Mark) Klein of Chamberlain, eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Ray belonged to Zion Lutheran Church in Presho, SD, served on church boards and took great pleasure being head usher until moving into the Regency Assisted Living in Chamberlain, SD in 2017. Although he had been known as a grumpy old man, after years of being surrounded by five women, he softened and won the hearts of many acquaintances along his journey. He captured the love and affection of many staff and residents at the Regency and the Sanford Care Center.
Ray loved camping, riding horses, hunting, fishing, woodworking, quilting, and oil painting. He was never afraid to tackle and learn new skills, which gave him the opportunity to explore many professions. He was naturally talented and creative with his hands. His well-known saying to his girls was "if you are going to do a job, do it right". He lived by that rule himself. One of his accomplishments was refurbishing the woodwork and brass in the Lyman County Courthouse. He built everything from houses to children's toys. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially enjoyed the step-stools.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his parents, and his brother Ronald Moore.
Raymond is survived by his four daughters and their husbands, brother Lyle (Gay) Moore, sister Fern (Roger) Best, sister-in-law Beth Moore, his eight grandchildren, and his 19 great-grandchildren.
