Funeral services for Ramona M. Johnson, 43, of Lower Brule, SD will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2026 at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD with burial in the Messiah Episcopal Cemetery at Iron Nation, SD. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.

Anyone wishing to follow, the procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.

Ramona Marcia Johnson was born on October 16, 1982 to Donita and Alvin Johnson Sr at Mid Dakota Hospital in Chamberlain, SD. She passed on July 25, 2026 in Sioux Falls, SD.

Ramona attended school in Lower Brule, St Joes, Lyman, Flandreau Indian School and graduated from Lower Brule with the class of 2001. She graduated from Lower Brule Community College in 2020 with her Associates of Arts in Elementary Education.

Ramona loved to play volleyball and basketball, enjoyed cruising around, loved spending time with her grandkids Dhazaria, Jahaziah, Raelee and Theodore.

Ramona gave birth to her first son Cory Joe in June 2003. Her second son Dylan was born in May 2010. In 2009 she took in her nephew Mamut as her own son. She had a special place for her nieces Dani and Meridith as she was always threatening them with her princess wand. She loved fixing their hair. She helped raise her nephew Ezra and nieces Eliza and Elora. `She called her nephew Jake her Chinksi Waste.

Ramona is survived by her mother Donita of Lower Brule, her sons Dylan and Cory of Lower Brule, sisters Elaine (John) Olson of Ft Thompson, Melinda (Dean) Lacota of Lower Brule, Alvita (Lemar) Neash of Chamberlain, brothers Andrew (Teresa) Mumford of Chocowinity NC, Joel of Rapid City, Alvin Jr, Arlen and Kendall Sr of Lower Brule and Bryce of Sioux Falls.

Ramona is survived by nieces, Lakita, Mallory, Mya, Krista, Meredith, Dani, Eliza, Elora and Adara. Nephews Malcolm, Arnold III, Mamut, Sebastion, Jake, Micah, Kyle, Ezra, Kendall Jr, Rylin Jr,, Kyren, Taitum, and Teegan. Grandkids Jahazzia, Keturah, Atlee, Thayer, Dhazaria, Raelee, Theodore, Evangeline and Preston Jr.

Ramona was preceded in death by her father Alvin Sr, brother Thomas and sisters Alvina, Julie and Kelly, nieces Deja, Rianne, Bethany, Amanda, nephew Nathan, granddaughters Kaytana and Olivia.
