Obituary

Funeral services for R. Everett "Sox" Goodface Sr., 66, of Lower Brule, SD will be 1:00 pm Thursday, October 17, 2019 at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD with burial in the Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery at Lower Brule.  Wake services will be Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.

R. Everett "Sox" Goodface was born at home in Lower Brule, SD on January 19, 1953 to Owen O. and Emma R. (Small) Goodface. Everett attended his grade school years at the Lower Brule Elementary and Bishop Hare. He then went to Stephan Indian Mission School where he graduated from high school in 1971.  Thoughout his high school years, he played basketball and was on the wrestling team. While in high school, he met Margaret "Punky" Poitra and were united in marriage in October 1972.  To this union, five boys were born.

After high school, Everett worked various jobs: Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, Director of the Lower Brule Ambulance, and tree planter.  He also worked in the schools as a paraprofessional, grade school basketball coach, and as the summer youth softball and baseball coach.

Everett loved to fish, coach the kids, play pool, play cards, and joke around.  But most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Everett started his journey on October 8, 2019 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 66 years.  Gratefully sharing his life are his sons Everett Goodface Jr. of Sioux Falls, SD, Craig (Cosette) Goodface of Taholah, WA, Jason Goodface of Lower Brule, SD, and Austin Goodface of Taholah, WA; a daughter Ruth Edge of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren ChaRae McBride, Keenan Goodface Kasey Gourneau, Nina Goodface, Natasha Goodface, and Krista Goodface; great grandchildren Tre Owen Feather, CJ Goodface, Sayata Goodface, Charles Ralston, Aliyah Gourneau; special nieces Fely Goodface and Liza Estes; a brother Dwayne Goodface of Lower Brule, SD; and a special cousin he called sister Sadie Pretty Sounding Flute.

Welcoming him home are his parents Owen O. and Emma R. Goodface, brother Owen "Goof" Goodface, son Joseph M. Goodface, granddaughters Krista L.M. Goodface and Norah Faith Goodface, and a special aunt Irene Pretty Sounding Flute.
