Patrick Lind Grey Owl, Sr. was born March 28, 1966 in Chamberlain, SD to Iva Grey Owl and LeRoy Thompson, Jr. He grew up and was raised in his paternal grandmother's home, Annie Thompson, in Fort Thompson, SD. He attended grade school at Ft Thompson Elementary and graduated from Crow Creek High School in Stephan, SD in May of 1985. Patrick loved sports and played football and basketball for the Crow Creek Chieftains. In February of 1982, as a freshman basketball player for the Crow Creek Chieftains, he advanced the Chieftains to a win to go on and play in the Regional tournament. Ultimately, the Chieftains made it to State B that year. After high school he attended a year of college at Black Hills State University, in Spearfish, SD, where he was studying to become an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician.) Due to personal things going on back home, Patrick didn't finish his schooling.

On April 3, 1987, he was united in marriage to Tina Fleury. To this union four children were born; Paige Lynelle, Patrick Lewis, Peyton Rose & Rosilee Ann. They shared 33 years of happiness together until Tina journeyed on in September 2020. They made their home in Fort Thompson, SD. Patrick was an avid fisherman which earned him the name, "Walleye Hunter." Patrick loved being in his boat and catching walleye, which his wife Tina would fry up. Everyone who knew Pat, loved his fresh fried walleye. He participated in a Pro-Walleye fishing tournament in Devil's Lake, ND and out of 150 fisherman he placed 13th overall, a accomplishment we were all so proud of. Another favorite thing Patrick loved doing was cooking. He had great culinary skills and was known for his talent at different places he worked at. He was employed at Diddy's Diner in Kimball, SD, Lode Star Casino & Cedar Shore Bar & Grille.
In January of 2020 due to a serious illness which affected his arteries, Patrick lost one of his legs to amputation. He did his best to come back from his surgery and recovered the best he could. This surgery altered his life and mindset greatly. His fishing and boating days sadly came to an end.
After losing his wife, he found another great companion and best friend, Charmaine Lopez. They spent a few years together until she passed away in February 2025. He was devasted and hurt after losing her. He opened his home to all his young friends and relatives over the years. He was known as "Unko Pat." He was surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him. He took care of them by providing a roof over their heads and they in turn cooked for him, brought him his smoke and drink and cigs. They were a beautiful family that shared in unconditional love with no judgement. Patrick loved Bob Marley's music with his favorite song being, "3 Little Birds." Patrick loved his family with everything he had. He was the oldest big brother to Raymond, Doug, Leanne, Christine, Lois & Lester.
Patrick will forever be remembered for his beautiful handsome smile, for his loving compassionate nature, for his care and concern for others before himself and his joking ways, his easy laughter and deep conversations. Brother Patrick thought a lot about where is he journeying home to now because he missed many of his relatives and friends that went before him.
Patrick made his journey to the spirit world on September 3, 2025 at his home in Fort Thompson, SD at the age of 59 years. Patrick is survived by his daughters, Paige, Peyton & Rosilee Grey Owl along with his grandchildren; Suzanna, Jerel, Davina & Wade, Sisters: Anna Rose Drapeau, Carole Ellen Quilt, Leanne Thompson, Christine Obago, & Lois Shields, Brothers: Raymond Grey Owl & Caleb Thompson, Uncles: Dale Thompson & Sylvester Drapeau and many relatives and friends who loved him and will miss him greatly. He is preceded in death by his parents Iva Grey Owl & LeRoy Thompson, Jr, step-parents Susan Smith & Lester Obago, Sr. Son Patrick L Grey Owl, Jr, Wife Tina Grey Owl, Brothers Doug Grey Owl Sr. & Lester Obago, Jr., Best Friend Charmaine Lopez, Paternal Grandparents LeRoy & Annie Thompson; Maternal Grandparents Robert Grey Owl, Sr. & Thelma Fleury Mullin.
