Funeral services for Pat A. Cummings, 90, of Pukwana will be 10:30 am Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Pukwana Lutheran Church in Pukwana, SD with burial in the Pukwana Cemetery at Pukwana. Visitation will begin Monday at 5:00 pm with prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.
Patricia A. was born November 6, 1928 to Francis and Geneva (Strombeck) Condon at Mitchell. She attended school at Letcher and later transferring to Notre Dame in Mitchell. When the family relocated to Pukwana she attended school in Pukwana graduating from Pukwana High School in 1947 before enrolling at Dakota Wesleyan College in Mitchell where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught at several country schools in the surrounding counties.
On July 17, 1948 Pat was united in marriage to James E. Cummings at Chamberlain. They made their home in Pukwana.
After many years of teaching she began working at the Chamberlain Adjustment Training Center later as activity coordinator for 13 years at Sunset Valley Nursing Home, and finally at the South Dakota Hall of Fame until her health forced her to retire at the age of 82.
Pat remained at her home in Pukwana until July 5, 2017 when she moved into Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain. She was able to celebrate her 90th birthday in November with many people attending.
In the earlier years, Pat and James loved to go dancing at the Pukwana Ballroom, the Paragon in Kimball, and at the Elks Club in Mitchell. She enjoyed working and visiting with people.
Pat passed away on June 28, 2019 at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain at the age of 90 years. Gratefully sharing her life are two daughters Jeanie Cummings of Pukwana and Sandy Heinrich and Don husband of rural Chamberlain; a son Dan Cummings and wife Karla of Pukwana; four grandchildren J.D. Heinrich, Donyelle Petersen, Emilie Cummings, and Bryton Cummings; and seven great grandchildren Jadon, Montana, Shay, Rylee, Teagan, Jory, and McCoy.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and a brother Junior Condon.
