Funeral services for Nova S. Griss, 65, of Pukwana, SD will be Monday, February 22, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Pukwana Free Lutheran Church in Pukwana, SD . Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.
The family encourages friends to pay their respects during visitation and would like to reserve the funeral for family and very close friends only.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
Nova S. Griss passed away on February 17, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Nova Sue Larson was born May 21, 1955 to Leland "Bud" and Joyce (Jacobs) Larson. She attended school in Chamberlain graduating from Chamberlain High School. After high school, she attended Black Hills State University and University of South Dakota at Springfield. While in college, she not only attained a degree but many wonderful lifelong friends.
Nova met Jack Griss while in Rapid City and they were united in marriage at Pukwana Free Lutheran Church. They made their home in Rapid City before moving to Chamberlain in 1987. They welcomed their daughter Hallea in 1986 and a year later their son Kyle.
She was a beloved teacher for over 30 years at Crow Creek High School in Fort Thompson. She was very passionate about her work and the welfare of her students. In 2019, she retired in order to spend time with her grandchildren who meant the world to her
Nova is survived by her husband Jack of Pukwana, SD; daughter Hallea (Patrick) Sundermann of Parker, SD; son Kyle (Miranda) Griss of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren Gavin, Talon, Annaleigh, Piper, Finley, and Layton; mother Joyce Larson of Mitchell, SD; her brother Leland "Butch" Larson of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters Doris (Kim) Christiansen of Blaine MN and Ladonna Larson of Mitchell; and many close nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Preceding her in death were her father Bud Larson, sister-in-law Sylvia Griss, brother-in-law Mike Evans, nephew Logan Griss, and mother and father-in-law Wallace and Florence Griss.
