Michael "Mike"
Pickner
April 4, 1957 – February 16, 2026
Michael "Mike" Pickner, age 68, passed away on February 16, 2026, and went home to be with the Lord. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and loyal friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mike was born on April 4, 1957, in Chamberlain, South Dakota, to Lawrence and Leone Pickner. Following in the footsteps of his father and older brother, Mike proudly served in the United States Navy as a Hull Technician from 1975 to 1977.
After his time in the Navy, Mike spent many years working as a Paper Print Technician for local newspapers in Chamberlain and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was a gifted master mechanic with a deep love for old hot rods and classic muscle cars—especially his prized 1946 Chevy Coupe, which he proudly restored.
Mike's favorite place in the world was along the shores of the "Mighty Mo" in Oacoma, South Dakota. He spent countless summers camping and fishing there with his beloved German Shepherds, Jack and Josie, who were truly his "dog children" and constant companions.
Mike found joy in the simple things in life and loved spending time with friends and family. He often joked about being a bit of a misfit, but those who knew him best knew he had a heart of gold and would do anything for the people he loved.
His pride and greatest joy was his daughter, Briana Michelle Pickner. Mike was not only her father, but her best friend and her rock. He also shared a very special and cherished bond with his nephew, Chris Peddycoart.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Briana Pickner and David Fahrendorf; Nancy Pickner; his sisters, Margaret Peddycoart and Mary (Bob) Drewess; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Leone Pickner; his brothers, Lawrence Pickner and Robert Pickner; his sister, Margey Peddycoart; his brother-in-law, Joseph Peddycoart; brother in law Robert Peddycoart, and his great-nephew, Monte Pickner.
In accordance with his wishes, Mike will be cremated. A private family ceremony will be held this summer along the riverbanks of his beloved Mighty Missouri River.
Mike's memory will live on in the stories we tell, the laughter we share, and the love he gave so freely.
