Maxine Mildred Grassrope was born March 25, 1929 to Jonah Small and Lois Pretty Sounding Flute at Old Lower Brule, SD.  On March 19, 1953, Maxine was united in marriage to Joseph Noah Grassrope.  Maxine had been employed by Lower Brule Housing Authority for over 40 years

Maxine had a very strong spiritual belief, her most enjoyable day of the week was Sunday.  She also was a BIG Vikings fan.  She loved playing bingo a lot and always found fellowship in social gatherings where she liked to talk and laugh with others who had the same interest about life. She was loved by all who came to know her during her long and graceful life.  She had a very special love for all the little ones "Takoja's".  She had many many people who adopted her as a mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and cousin because of her loving, caring guidance she showed them.

Maxine passed away on November 18, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain, SD at the age of 90 years.  Gratefully sharing her life are her three sons Alvin Grassrope of Box Elder, SD, Lindy Guy Grassrope and Darren Grassrope of Lower Brule; two daughters Diane and Marlita Grassrope both of Lower Brule; grandchildren Christopher Grassrope, Alvin Grassrope Jr., Stephanie, Anita, Daniel Grassrope, Dana Pourier, Katrina Grassrope, Damion Grassrope, Ellwyn Flute, Javen Kitto, Rose Anna Cosgrove, Kevin Flute, Kimberly Flute, Annelle Grassrope, Kristina, Allen, Tiara, Andrea, and Casey Grassrope, and many other grandchildren, great grandchildren too numerous to mention but not forgotten.
