Mavis Schoenfelder, 84, of Chamberlain, SD, was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, June 5 th , 2021.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the AmericInn Lodge and Suites in Chamberlain, SD.
Mavis was born on August 12 th , 1936, in Bijou Hills, SD, to Vernon Zeman and Lorraine (Toupal) Hieb. Mavis attended school in Eagle, SD, and moved to Chamberlain when she was 16 where she worked as a waitress. There she met and married Vernon Schoenfelder on July 5 th , 1954, at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain. After raising their seven children together, Mavis helped Vern with his contracting and property business. Mavis had recently been enjoying life at Touchmark at All Saints in Sioux Falls, SD, where she was a staff favorite.
Mavis will be fondly remembered and missed for her uncanny ability to make everyone around her laugh and her famous potato salad. She had the greenest thumb, and her children and grandchildren hold memories of working in the garden with her close to their hearts.
Grateful to have shared in her life are her children, Steve (Lori) Schoenfelder of Lincoln City, OR, Bill (Jean) Schoenfelder of Lenexa, KS, Dale (Michelle) Schoenfelder of Chamberlain, SD, Tom (Pam) Schoenfelder of El Dorado Hills, CA, Carol (Paul) Adams of Sioux Falls, SD, Christine (Leif) Johansson of Fairfield, CA; her sister, Shirley Ford of MN; her step-brother Daniel Hieb of Chamberlain, 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Mavis is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Vern, their daughter Susan, her parents Vernon Zeman and Lorraine Hieb and stepfather Daniel Hieb, and her siblings Jeanette Shroyer, Donald Zeman, Elaine VanLoh, and Janice Hickey; and a son-in-law Mike Watratz.
