Funeral Services for Mary Jane Stepp"Dakota Winyan", 66, of Ft. Thompson, will be held Wednesday July 17, 2019 12:00 p.m. at the Crow Creek Sioux Tribal Gym in Fort Thompson, SD. Burial will be in the Christ Episcopal Cemetery, Ft Thompson SD. Wake Services will be Monday and Tuesday at 7:00p.m at the Crow Creek Sioux Tribal Gym in Fort Thompson, SD
Mary Jane Stepp was born July 13, 1952 in Chamberlain, SD to Burton Stepp Sr. and Margaret Stands on Top-Stepp.
Mary graduated from Stephan High School in 1971. She lived her whole life in Fort Thompson, SD. She started working at the Finance office for the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe in 1983 to 2005 and for the Lodestar Casino as a payroll clerk in 2006 were she remained until passing.
Mary and her family danced at the World's Only Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD from 1965 to 1967 performing many shows dancing traditional, and they also traveled to many Pow-wow's. Mary enjoyed traveling, Crow Creek District Bingo, watching Softball, Basketball, and Volleyball Tournaments/ Leagues, Gambling, Pow-wow's, shopping at Wal-Mart, and watching Western Movies. She was also an avid supporter of the Crow Creek Lady Chieftains and Chieftains Basketball; rarely missing a game.
Mary loved anything to do with family coming together and spending time including birthdays and cookouts. Mary lived her life to support her daughter, Shavonne, in everything she did. Mary was known to everyone as "Mama M Jay" as she took care of everyone she encountered on the Softball, Basketball Trail.
Mary started her journey home on July 10, 2019 surrounded by family and friends at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 66. Gratefully sharing her life are her daughter Shavonne Stepp of Fort Thompson, SD, son Evan Hawk of Fort Thompson, SD, niece Delaney Stepp (Winnie) of Fort Thompson, SD, nephew Burton Stepp III (Trent and Lashawn)of Fort Thompson, SD, Richard Stands on Top (Dominique, Tiffany, Macy, Tabitha, Savannah, Samantha, Samuel) of Rosebud, SD Tyrone Stepp of Fort Thompson, SD (Brayden, Atrayah, Shayden), Robert & Rosie Pickner (Lacey, Michelle, Daniel) of Ft.
