Mary Ann C. McKinney

Mary Ann C. McKinney was born March 21,1946 in Mitchell, South Dakota to the late Joseph and Mary White (Straka) and passed away on December 13, 2025 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mary Ann spent her childhood in Reliance, SD and moved to Rapid City in 1964 after high school to attend the National College of Business.  Afterwards, she worked at Rushmore Insurance and married William (Bill) T. McKinney on July 22, 1966.  Over the next 18 years, Bill and Mary Ann moved to Guam, South Carolina, and back to South Dakota during his service in the United States Air Force.

Mary Ann lived in Box Elder, SD for 17 years.  While there, she was active in her children's school and sports activities and also served on the Box Elder City Council.  Mary Ann moved to Chamberlain, SD in 1997.  For many years she managed the family farm, served on the funeral committee at St. James Catholic Church and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Johnson/Peterson Unit 179 in Reliance.  She loved traveling throughout the United States, gardening, crocheting, watching Braves baseball and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Bill; her children Dawn (Russ) Bowen and Tom (Sarah) McKinney; her grandchildren, Ashley (Logan) McDaniel, Tyler Bowen, and Maddie McKinney; her sister, Dorthy Francis, niece Amanda (Joe) Tierney, great-nephew Ethan Tierney and great-niece Campbell Tierney.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betty Jo Fortune.

Funeral Service: Monday, January 5, 2026, 11:00 a.m., Bellevue Memorial Chapel, Bellevue, NE

Place of Rest: Monday, January 5, 2026, 12:30 p.m., Omaha National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Reliance Area Community Development, PO Box 613, Reliance, SD 57569.

A memorial service will be held in Reliance at a later date.
