Funeral services for Martin M. Grass Rope, 41, of Lower Brule, SD will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD with burial in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lower Brule, SD.  Wake services will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.

Martin Merlin Grass Rope was born to Victor GrassRope and Ellen Grass Rope (Smith) on March 4, 1980 in Sisseton South Dakota.

Martin has attended Elementary and High school in Lower Brule and later attended Job Corps in Nemo SD where he studied culinary arts and Business study. In 2002 Martin attended Haskell in Lawrence Kansas and later returned to be with family.

In 2009 Martin met the love of his life Misty Meyer Howe GrassRope and to this union six children were born, three girls Halle Elise, Journey Shyne, and Shonni Skye and Three boys Kyrie D'ray, Drake Victorious and Jarek Taven.

Martin had many jobs such as a Motor Vehicle Operator for the IHS, firefighter, community center coordinator , construction and a Weber operator with Dakota provisions. Of all the jobs Martin has achieved the one job that he took pride in was being an EMT with the LBST ambulance, he has worked this job off and on throughout 11 years and was honored to be able to help the members of the Lower Brule and Fort Thompson communities.

Martin has obtained many different accomplishments throughout his 41 years of life but his biggest accomplishment was his wife and six beautiful children. He loved spending time with them and making memories. When Martin came to visit or would go out on a trip with his children you would hear him yell "headcount" and immediately Martin, his wife, and his kids would start counting each kid to make sure they were all present. Throughout being sick Martin still held on to his personality and sense of humor. Even though at times he struggled he would still find the time to crack a joke or get himself up and spend time with his wife and kids.

No matter what challenges that were thrown at Martin he never faltered when it came to taking care of his wife and kids, whether it was support, cooking, or cleaning he gave his all for them.

Martin made his journey on September 24, 2021 in his home in Lower Brule SD. Martin will never be forgotten, his memory and the love he shared will live on in our hearts forever.

Martin is survived by his wife Misty, his six kids, his mother Ellen, and four brothers Donovan (Theresa), Clayton, Alan and Ben (Peggy); his five sisters Allison (Quintin) GrassRope, Sharla, Lucinda (Ryan) GrassRope, Memoree (Robert) GrassRope, and Leslee (Shylo) LaForge, and his many cousins nieces and nephews

Preceding him in death were his father Victor Sr, his brother Victor Jr, a daughter Nevaeh who became his guardian angel before her life had begun, his maternal grandparents Helen and Delmar and his Paternal grandparents Solomon and Florence.
