Funeral services for Marlys M. Hallman, 94, of Chamberlain, SD will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Kimball Protestant Parish in Kimball with burial in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery at Mitchell, SD.  Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.

Marlys Mary (Miller) Hallman was born at Mitchell, SD on April 20, 1929, the daughter of Fred and Kathryn (Zimmerman) Miller of White Lake, SD.  She attended Patten School in Aurora County until fifth grade, then moved to Brule County in 1940 and attended Boesen School through the eighth grade.  On November 19, 1949, she was united in marriage to Walter Hallman Jr. in Deadwood, SD. They farmed up until Walter's death in October of 1984 and she moved to Chamberlain.  She managed the Melchert Motel for four years and also worked at Caseys Welcome West Café beginning in February 1985 as a dishwasher.  She was employed there until Casey's closed in December of 2012.  Then she worked at Gateway Restaurant and the Senior Citizen Center.  Marlys retired in July 2019 at the age of 90.  In October 2019, Marlys became a resident of the Chamberlain Care Center where she remained until her passing on November 19,2023, surrounded by family.

Marlys survived by her daughter Barb (Leonard) Springer of Oacoma; grandchildren Sandi Springer of Pukwana, Brent Springer of Gann Valley, and Sundee (Adam) Mayer of Pukwana; three great grandchildren Bailey, Colin, and Sheldon Mayer; two sisters Jean (Dwain) Blackwell of Chamberlain and Lois (Ross) Goodrich of Mundelein, IL, and a sister-in-law Ethel Miller of Kimball.

Preceding her in death are her parents Kathryn (Zimmerman) and Fred Miller Sr., her husband Walter Hallman in 1984, a brother Fred Miller Jr. and a niece Janice Miller.
