Obituary

Marjorie L. (Gerard) Halvorson passed away peacefully at the age of 94 (almost 95) on January 27, 2025. She had been residing in the Chamberlain Care Center for about 2 1/2 years.

Marge was born at home in 1930 to Harry and Ruby Gerard. Her brother, Lyle Eugene (L.E.) was one year older than her. However, they started country school together because they would have each been in a grade alone, and the teacher agreed it was better for both of them to have some competition. She: attended Freshman year of high school at Presho because Kennebec School was closed for lack of teachers due to WWII. Kennebec High School opened its doors again the next year. She graduated as Salutatorian and brother Gene was Valedictorian. There was only a few points difference in their grades. Marge got a kick out of that and Uncle Gene would smirk and groan a little when she would brag about it.

Marge married E. Gene Halvorson in 1948 shortly after he returned from the war in the Pacific. To their union, 4 children were born- Judy, Curtis, Marsha and Ricky.

Marge's life revolved around family, church and community, always striving to live life according to the Golden Rule. Some of the other joys in her life included music, painting, bridge, golf, crossword puzzles and bingo at Senior Citizens Club, which she helped to get started. She was also a member of See Your Neighbor Club. They always had such fun.

Marge was preceded in death by her son. Ricky, daughter Judy, husband Gene and brother L.E.

She is survived by her son Curt (Mary), daughter Marsha (Bill Stanton), son-in-law Jerry, 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren.

We are all so grateful to have been a part of her life.

(Matthew 7:12 NIV) So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.

There will be a celebration of life at Kennebec Lutheran Church in Kennebec on Friday, March 7th from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. (with a short service at 4:00). Coffee, cookies and cake will be served. This would have been her 95th birthday.
