Funeral services for Loraine E. Suhl, 85, of Reliance, SD will be 10:00 am Friday, August 30, 2019 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reliance, SD with burial in the Reliance Cemetery at Reliance, SD. Visitation will begin Thursday at 5:00 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.
Loraine Eilene (Wagaman) Suhl was born to Jacob and Pauline (Frey) Wagaman on November 23, 1933 in Lyman County, Reliance, SD and made her home there until health forced her to move to Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain in December of 2016.
She attended school the first six years at Mayflower Country School which was 1 1/4 miles from home. She finished grade school in Oacoma, SD staying with her sister and family.
On June 11, 1955, Loraine was united in marriage to Edward J. Suhl. To this union, two children were born Alan and Paula.
She discovered at the age of 16, the enjoyment of entertaining, singing, playing the piano, guitar, and knowing all the words to all the country songs. She enjoyed entertaining in local talent shows with the proceeds going to the building of the Reliance Community Hall, now the Legion Hall. She played for many dances.
Loraine was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, and the L.W.M.L. Her hobbies were writing poetry, music, watching TV, reading, baking, and gardening.
She was employed with the Lyman School District for 26 years. The school closed in 1996 and she thought it was time to "graduate".
Loraine passed away on August 27, 2019 at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain at the age of 85 years. Gratefully sharing her life are her two children Alan Suhl (Karleen Hanig) of Oacoma, SD and Paula Suhl of Chamberlain, SD; a sister Marilyn Wagaman of Reliance, SD; a sister-in-law Mary Wagaman of Reliance, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents Jacob and Pauline Wagaman, her husband Edward J. Suhl, three brothers Emil "Jack" Wagaman, Roland "Bill" Wagaman, and LeRoy Wagaman, a sister Henrietta Kenobbie, a brother-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
