Funeral services for Lois G. Morganfield, 94, of Chamberlain formerly of Springfield, SD will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2023 at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Monday in the Winner City Cemetery at Winner.  Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.

Lois was born March 9, 1928 to Ed and Frances Nelson in Racine, WI.   The family moved to Fremont, Nebraska in 1932 where Lois began kindergarten at the age of 4 in a rural school. They later moved to Norfolk, NE where her brother Ed Jr. was born.  Lois graduated from high school in Norfolk and then in the late 40's the family moved to Winner, SD.  Lois met and married Gerald Morganfield on October 9, 1948.  Lois worked in several places, PRANG's Apparel, Aller Jewelry, The Vogue, and later opened and operated the Mar-Jean Shop.   After that time in her life, she became Deputy Clerk under Sheriff Jim Storms.  In 1971, they relocated to Springfield, SD to become Dorm Parents at a new "mens" dormitory at the University of South Dakota at Springfield.  After the closing of the university, she became Secretary to the Warden of the South Dakota State Prison at Springfield and remained in that position until h er retirement in 1993.  She and her husband started crafting and traveled throughout the state to area craft shows.  In 2003, they relocated to Chamberlain, SD to be closer to family.  In October 2012, she became a resident of the Regency Retirement Assisted Living and in January of 2020 moved to the Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 56 years, her parents Ed and Frances Nelson, her in-laws Les and Maggie Morganfield, a brother and sister-in-law Ed and Lavonne Nelson, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marion and Paul Peer, and a niece Sharon Swedlund.

Lois passed away on February 16, 2023 at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain at the age of 94 years.  Gratefully sharing her life are her children Marsha (Kelly) Hodge of Hamill, SD, Jean (Roger) Burfeindt of Chamberlain, SD, and Mark (Barb) Morganfield of Alexandria, VA; seven grandchildren Tresh (Sara) Swedlund of Witten, Tory Swedlund of Edmond, OK, Ashley (Jed) Riggle of Lincoln, NE, Jill (Wyatt) Larsen of Chamberlain, Lesley (Iris) Burfeindt of Chamberlain, Maggie (Lee) Parker of Vienna, VA, and Maxwell Morganfield of Boulder, CO; 16 great grandchildren Bella, Olivia, Savanna, and Lela Swedlund, Jaxon, Dacey, and Ozzie Swedlund, Samuel, Claire, and Ruby Riggle, Aidyn Reis, Liam, Kenley, and Elliot Larsen, and Rhodes and Molly Parker; and many nieces and nephews.
