Wake services will be 7:00 pm., Saturday and Sunday at Akicita Mato (Bear Soldier) Gymnasium, Fort Thompson, SD.
Linda Faye Pomani was born in Chamberlain SD, on July 15, 1957, a beautiful and very loved first born daughter of Delbert Pomani Sr. and Marilyn (Medicine Crow), joining her sister Mary Jane Medicine Crow as her big sister, eventually becoming a big sister to; Delbert Jr., Elizabeth, Frank, Helen and Glenn all carrying Pomani as last names. She had younger siblings Tonia, Joseph and DeAnna Pomani and adopted or Hunka siblings include Richard Coleman, Romona Hawkins and Codi Pomani.
When Linda was young she told stories of riding horses, going to pow wows, dances, and all her animals that she got to love throughout her life along with the memories of cousins doing a lot of kid stuff. Linda danced in the Fancy Shawl category and made a name for herself starting in Fraizer, MT where she champed out. She had been invited to the Gathering of Nations to Compete and represent her homelands. Linda loved dancing with Lillian, Carmelita, and Pam Boa, just a few of the many that she would mention. When Linda reached adulthood she headed to the west coast to live the ocean life around Oceanside, CA. Linda worked as a bartender that got them into darts and pool. Aunty loved her music and could be caught dancing and singing, happy as can be. She had a team of dart players that went to finals one year. Linda always would be talking to the plants, people and animals with so much kindness. She also was known for making shirts by cutting them for people and making fashion of her own and her Indian sisters. She also did glasswork.
Linda returned home to Fort Thompson in the mid 90's when she claimed a beautiful snow white terrier named Tazzy Pomani and stayed here to give him a good life, which she did. She was the family vet when any animal, bird, dog, cat ect., had something wrong she would do her best to fix them. Eventually, Aunty Linda was a really prized community member by gardening and willing to teach others what to do when to plant before long before there was google. Linda was a bookworm to thus where her knowledge came from and was deeply valued. Linda began working and earned her GED at the same time, she was the late Amanda Thompsons trusted caretaker, and she did her best. Not long after taking on her Mother's house in Gingways she had taken classes and got approved foster parent certificates where she went on to help her family by taking in some extended family's children which she was very proud of herself as was we as a family. After her son Tazzy passed, she took some time to get another companion, which she got gifted a little tiny Tazzy named Sierra Pee Rings Pomani, and recently Turbo the big red heeler. Her home was filled with birds chirping and dogs barking, it was music to her ears.
Aunty Linda was a respected elder, a loving family member, a good neighborhood watch, avid Naha shopper and thrifting many items for all she loved. She filled her life with people to love, animals to feed, and plants that needed weeding. She was very active and still got around well which is why her passing is hard to endure. Although she lived fully by doing everything she wanted to do, saying every I love you she could, and greeting everyone at her corner stop that has been our families main house to stop at from back when Aim had meetings in the basement.
Linda passed at home with her loving and protective Turbo at her side on August 24, 2025.
Linda will be greeted at the Big Pow Wow by her loved ones waiting for her; Parents Delbert Sr. and Marilyn Pomani, siblings Mary Jane Medicine Crow, Delbert Jr., Elizabeth, and Helen, nephew Daniel, her grandparents Buckley Pomani, Ed Medicine Crow, Sophie Bold, and Helen Plays With Irons Chiefs, Bone Necklace, Rain In The Face, and White Ghost.
Linda's family she leaves behind are: her brothers Frank & Glenn Pomani, her many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and her adopted and hunka family. We will greatly miss her and her calls to check in on us and tell us she found something for us.
