Funeral services for Leonard E. Harres, age 78, of Gann Valley, SD, will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4 th , 2021, at the Gann Valley Fire Hall in Gann Valley, SD. Burial will follow at the Vega Cemetery in rural Kimball, SD. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 3 rd , 2021, at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain, SD.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Gann Valley Community Center or the Gann Valley Fire Hall.
Leonard E. Harres was born on March 5, 1943, to Emuel and Emma (Czapskie) Harres in Buffalo County, South Dakota. He attended country school in Buffalo County. Leonard graduated high school at the Gann Valley High School in May of 1961. Leonard went to the Rapid City School of Business, Rapid City, South Dakota and graduated in 1963. He also attended the National Guard Noncommissioned Officers School in 1968.
Leonard returned home and married Brenda Thompson. To this union, two children were born. Leonard later married Eloise "Lou" Heiser on September 18, 1978.
Leonard worked at the Plankinton Training School and was a recruiter for the National Guard in Chamberlain, SD. He also trucked over the road for the Midwest Trucking business. His main occupation was being a farmer. Leonard retried from the United States Army in March of 2003. Leonard was a member of the Chamberlain and Gann Valley American Legion/VFW.
Leonard passed away on May 30, 2021, at the Wessington Springs Memorial Hospital in Wessington Springs, SD at the age of 78. Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Lou, his three children Lanette McLeish-Kotilinek (Jeff Kohlrus), Tara (Jeff) Hall, and Kelly Harres (Aaron Nelson), grandchildren Wyatt Kotilinek, John Hall, Crystal Romero, and great grandchildren Sebastian Romero, Cristinao Romero, Sebastian Kotilinek, Trinity Kotilinek, and RaeLynn Kotilinek.
Preceding him in death are his parents Emuel and Emma Harres, brother Donald and his wife Linda, grandson John Patrick Breck and one great grandchild Ignacio Romero.
