Funeral services for Leonard Charles Byington, Sr., 67, of Lower Brule, SD will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.  Wake services will be Monday and Tuesday at 7:00 pm at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.

Leonard Charles Byington Sr. was born October 18, 1952 to Charles Warren Byington Sr and Josephine Charging Eagle at Fort Yates, ND.  At the age of eight years, he moved to Rapid City with his mother.  On September 25, 1975, Leonard met Sandy McCauley in Sioux Falls, SD.  They were united in marriage on October 18, 1976.  They started making their home in Lower Brule in 1978.

To this union, seven children were born.

Leonard loved hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed sports, including football, basketball and softball.

Leonard became a born again Christian in 1983.

Leonard passed away on June 12, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain at the age of 67 years.  Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Sandy of Lower Brule; nine children Quincy Sr. (Crystal) of Aberdeen, Leaf (Wes) Rooks of Pierre, Joy Flying Hawk of Yankton, Leonard Jr. (Brandee) of Wood, Echo Alfaro and children of Des Moines, IA, Swan Byington of Lower Brule, Sky (Ashley) Byington of Bullhead, Fon Byington of Pierre, and Majestic Byington of Sioux Falls; 53 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; three sisters Lillian Galloway of Illinois, Laura Stephson of Minnesota and Darlene Speidel of Canada; and a brother Francis Byington Sr.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, and four brothers.
