Obituary

Funeral services for Leana Mae Medicine Crow, 31, of Lower Brule, SD will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the Ft. Thompson Community Center in Ft. Thompson, SD with burial in the Christ Episcopal Cemetery at Ft. Thompson, SD.  Wake services will be 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Lower Brule Community Center and at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Ft. Thompson Community Center in Ft. Thompson, SD.

Leana Mae Medicine Crow was born on August 29, 1990 in Chamberlain, SD to Carl Medicine Crow and Crystal Estes Medicine Crow.  Leana attended her early school years in Lower Brule and attended her high school years at Flandreau Indian School, graduating in 2008.  She lived and worked throughout South Dakota during her life and was always considered a hard worker at whatever she applied herself to. She was a diehard Denver Broncos fan & she loved watching her nephews & the Lower Brule Sioux play. She welcomed her first daughter, Krystal Dawn Drapeau in 2010. She was married to Kyle Ashes, Sr. She had two daughters from this union - Jazmine Rose and Kylea Louise Ashes, and her only son Kyle "Lane Henry"Ashes Jr.

Leana made her journey on March 12, 2022 at Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain, SD at the age of 31.

Preceding her in death were her father, Carl Medicine Crow, Sr., her aunt Lois Medicine Crow, her maternal grandparents, Lena and James Estes, her paternal grandparents, Mildred and Bill Lengkeek and Edison Medicine Crow.

Leana is survived by her children Krystal Drapeau, Jazmine Ashes, Kylea Ashes, Lane Ashes, and a hunka son, Kyrie.  She is also survived by her mother Crystal Medicine Crow, sisters, Desiree (Brian) LaRoche, Jerrica (Derek) Medicine Crow of Lower Brule, SD, Carly Medicine Crow of Sioux Falls, SD, and three brothers Carl Medicine Crow Jr. of Ft. Thompson, Ross Estes (Anne) of Lower Brule SD, and Reuben Estes of Lower Brule SD, and all her nieces and nephews she loved deeply, too many to name.
