Lawrence William Gravatt was born on May 28, 1957, the first of eight children to William Joseph Gravatt and Wilhemenia Laura Kirkie in Santa Monica, California.  Larry grew up in various Los Angeles areas attending Elementary and Junior High School in California.  His High School years were at Crow Creek, graduating a proud Chieftain, Senior Class President, and Valedictorian of the Class of 1975.  Larry continued two years of studies at UCLA and ran the Los Angeles Marathon in 1987.

A love for music and sports filled Larry's soul.  He always had a guitar by his side, and would tune into Oldies, Rock'n'roll, the Blues, anything that came to mind.  Larry's favorite teams were the LA Rams, LA Dodgers, and LA Lakers.  His endurance in sports was all around, he always played his huge heart out, never giving up.  Whether it was baseball, fast pitch softball, basketball, football, horseshoes, or his favorite past-time – fishing.

Larry had various jobs during his lifetime while residing on Crow Creek Sioux Tribal land.  He enjoyed attending church at Diamond Willow, where he also volunteered and attended men's breakfast.

Larry was blessed with seven beautiful children – Benjamin Lawrence, April Elaine Harjo (Gail Bowlegs), Kimberley Louise, Karen Ann, Sam Gravatt (Virginia Sam), Lorinda Rae Gravatt (Linda Thompson), adopted daughters, Holly Dupris, Jennifer Nichols, Jessica Nichols (Darlene Nichols), and baby AuVonce Red Wind -Gravatt (Alison Wind).

Larry is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Also sharing his life were his seven siblings- Catherine (Duane) Bear Ribs of Oklahoma, Mark (Jeannie) Gravatt of Idaho, Dawna (Bernard) Gravatt of Pierre, SD, Michelle (Gary) MacBeth of Yankton, SD, Madeline (Cetan) Encalada of Chamberlain, SD, Constance Gravatt of Rapid City, SD, and Michael Scott Jr, of Chamberlain, SD.

Our beloved son, brother, father, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle, cousin, friend, and teammate will be deeply missed by everyone who loved Larry.  His infectious smile and deep laughter we will forever hold in our hearts.  On behalf of L.G. his family extends their gratitude to all who touched his life – CCST – Elderly, CCST Council, Sanford Heart Hospital Critical Care unit, Sioux Falls.
