LaVaun L Holan, 85, of Chamberlain, SD, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Prairie View Assisted Living in Kimball, SD.

LaVaun Lawrence Holan, son of Lawrence and Evalyn (Janik) Holan was born at Bijou Hills, SD, on January 11, 1940.  He attended school in Kimball, graduating from Kimball High School in 1959.  After high school, he worked in the Kimball area before enlisting in the Air Force and serving from 1961 until 1964 at Clinton-Sherman AFB, attaining the Rank of E-6 Tech Sgt. He re-enlisted with the Army National Guard and served in Chamberlain and Wagner from 1973 until 1993 when he was Honorably Discharged.

On November 27, 1965, LaVaun was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Thaler at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Kimball. They made their home in Kimball before moving to Stickney in the early 1970's, where he worked for NWPS. They later moved to Chamberlain where LaVaun worked as an Electrician for many years with Johnson Control and Paape Distributing. After retiring, he started his own business, Town and Country Heating and Cooling, serving the needs of Chamberlain and surrounding communities for many years.

LaVaun and Ruth attended many American Legion State Conventions and several American Legion National Conventions. He served the Legion as Commander, Baseball Commissioner, and Color Guard.

He enjoyed fishing, singing karaoke, hunting, camping, treasure hunting, and collecting model trains and Bradford Exchange Classic Cars. He also enjoyed playing cards and had a great time attending weekly Pukwana Lawnmower Races, but most of all, he loved going dancing with Ruth.

Grateful for sharing his life are his children Rochelle (Dana) Yost of Corona De Tucson, AZ, Roxanne (Troy) Sipes of Mitchell, SD, Waylon (Stacy) Holan of Burkburnett, TX, and Jodi (Bill) Lefort of Nashville, TN; his grandchildren Jessica, Derick, Tyler, Téa, Kayce, Aaron, Shelby, Molly, Maverick, Lucas, Wylie, and Marisa; his great grandchildren Ellisa, Isabell, Micah, Eden, Hazley, Finley, Miriam, Charlotte, Nova, Rowdy, and Rhett; Cinnamon, a brother from another mother, and many, many other friends and relatives.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Ruth, of 43 years; brother Dennis, two sisters Lynette Leiferman and Nelda Jean Holan, and furry children from a different mother, Skippy, Browne, and Duke.
