Obituary

Laurel Leah Plane, 58, passed away in Houston, Texas after an intense battle with cancer complicated by multiple sclerosis.

Born Laurel Dill in Chamberlain, SD in September 1962 to Willie and Norma Dill, she graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Master's Degree in Applied Voice. While at USD, she met Anthony Plane- they fell in love and married in April 1988. After they both graduated, they moved to Houston where they had two daughters, Nicole Christine ('95) and Jessica Robin ('97).

To know Laurel was to know you were blessed and know you were cared for. As much as she wanted to be known for her beautiful, operatic singing voice; she was perhaps more known for her sense of humor and her friendship. Her personality can't be summed up in a few sentences, anyone that knew her knows that.

Laurel is survived by her husband Anthony, her daughters Nicole (Evan) Blum and Jessica Plane, her step-daughters Erika (Shawn) Scott and Lucinda Plane, her sister Deb (Steven) Leige, her brother Jon Dill, their families, her 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Family was in attendance at a private burial at the Pukwana Norwegian Free Lutheran Cemetery in Pukwana, SD as Laurel was laid to rest beside her parents. She was taken from us far too soon and will forever be missed by many. While life won't be the same for those who loved her and were loved by her, we are comforted in the knowledge that we'll see her again in Heaven one day.
