In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.

Laverne Carol Fletcher was born December 19, 1934 at Chamberlain to Roy O. and Elsie M. (Albert) Fletcher.  Soon after birth, she became known to everyone as Carol.  She attended school at Reliance where she graduated in 1952.  During her youth she enjoyed marking fields for her father's aerial spraying business. She loved flying and doing aerobatics with her father and the other spray pilots.

After high school, she attended General Beadle State Teacher's College in  Madison, SD where she obtained her teaching certificate.  While attending college, Carol met Frederick Anderson and in 1954 they were united in marriage.  To this union, four sons were born.  They later divorced.

She devoted her career to pouring into the young minds of fourth-graders as an elementary teacher. She seemed to particularly enjoy reaching the kids that struggled and otherwise fell through the cracks. She retired from teaching in 1999 and enjoyed a long retirement pursuing her hobbies and grandchildren.

She was very artistic and created hundreds of paintings, ceramics, and pottery.  She loved knitting, crocheting, gardening, bass fishing, and birdwatching. She was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed crossword puzzles, cryptograms, and beating everyone at Scrabble.

She enjoyed remarkable health most of her life. But in late 2018 she seemed to fall victim to one medical illness after another and finally succumbed to complications of a stroke.  Carol passed away on February 24, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, SD.

Gratefully sharing her life are her three sons Gregory James Anderson and wife Darlene of Engelhard, NC, Michael John Anderson of Chamberlain, SD and Jeffrey Lee Anderson and wife Emily of Harrisburg, SD; a sister Rosemarie Karlen of Reliance, SD; a brother Donald Fletcher of Reliance, SD; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a son David Roy; and three brothers Roger, Doug, and Martin.

Carol truly loved unconditionally and saw the best in people. The word she used most was "wonderful" and that best describes her life.
