Kimberley 'Kim' Lou Tyrell passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025 surrounded by her family at home, just as she had wanted. Kim was born on January 18, 1962 in Toronto, Canada to parents Glen and Doreen (Jamieson) Dietz. Kim and her family later moved to the United States where she graduated from Crystal Lake Central High School in 1979, and received her Bachelors degree from Western Illinois University in 1983, where she met her husband of 41 years, Mike Tyrell.
Kim and Mike left the Chicagoland area in 1985, intending to spend only one year serving at St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota. That year grew into 40 years, as they made Chamberlain their home and began raising their family. Kim was deeply devoted to her family, and fully embraced the Tyrell family motto - faith, family, fun in all that they did.
A shining light in the community, Kim dedicated her time to St. James food pantry, Dancing Dolls and Dudes, and other community events and organizations. Known for her genuine care and compassion, Kim had a gift of bringing joy and humor into every situation. As a beloved member of the Brule County Babes and the Golden Girls, she brought endless laughter, and always made sure those around her felt appreciated and loved.
Kim was also known for her big heart and even bigger personality. A true animal lover, she adored her bulldogs, Bubbles and Sweetness, and would happily take in any animal that wandered to her doorstep. She welcomed everyone with her infectious smile as the hostess at Al's Oasis for many years, and as an active member of the Catholic Church. Kim could have easily been the mayor of Chamberlain - if politics weren't required, her family would joke - because she truly knew everyone. Famous for her chocolate chip cookies, she had the special gift of striking up a conversation with anyone, often learning their entire life story in 20 minutes.
Kim was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Mike, her son Joe, his wife Chelsey, and their three children Aydenn, Rylie, and Raegan; her sons Max and Sam; her daughters Maddy and Izzy; her mother Doreen Dietz (Glen); her sisters Kelly Pliner (Dave), Kerri Kreul (John); and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews that adored her.
Kim is preceded in death by her father Glen Dietz and father-in-law Don Tyrell.
May she forever be 'Dancing in the Moonlight.'
