Kenneth Wayne World Turner Jr.
"Murf"
November 16, 1960 — April 8, 2026
FORT THOMPSON, SD — Kenneth Wayne World Turner Jr., an enrolled member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe known affectionately as "Murf," sang his final pow wow song and began his journey home on April 8, 2026. Born on November 16, 1960, in Yankton, SD, Murf was a man who lived life to the throttle—a force of nature who never sat still if there was a road to be traveled or a song to be sung.
Murf's vibrant spirit was evident from a young age; throughout his high school years, he was incredibly popular and well-known as a gifted dancer who could always be found at the center of the floor during school dances. He lived to be ready—always the first one to head where the action was, but just as content to simply be on the move. He spent his life on the open road, traveling the pow wow trail all across the United States. Whether he was seeking the energy of a crowded circle or the quiet peace of a long highway, he was at home wherever the wheels took him.
In every pow wow community he visited, Murf was recognized for his steady and strong singing voice. His willingness to share his songs was well known by all who knew him, and he was always ready to sing for those who asked.
Waiting to greet him at the end of his trail were his parents, Kenneth World Turner Sr. and Mildred (Jones) World Turner; his siblings, Jan, Mona, and Charles "Chuck" Vernon World Turner**; and his children, Valene and Jordan.
Murf's legacy of love and song will be carried forward by his wife, Juanita Louise World Turner; and his children, Derek, Jason, and Casey. He also leaves behind a vast network of relatives, fellow singers, and friends across the trail. Though his voice has joined the ancestors, the rhythm of his life will continue to echo in every drumbeat and every mile of open road.
A one-day wake will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Fort Thompson Community Hall in Fort Thompson, SD. Following the wake, he will be picked up at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 15, in preparation for cremation.
"He didn't just pass through life; he rode it to the end. The song is finished, the road is clear, and the family is together again."
