Wake services for Kenneth (Kenny) Leroy Harmon, 87, of Lower Brule, SD will be Friday, Sept. 25, 2020 at his home at 23880 HWY 21, in Lower Brule, SD, at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020 at 3:00 pm at his residence with burial to follow at Iron Nation Messiah Cemetery in Lower Brule.
Kenny was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 24, 2020. He was born on January 8 th , 1933, to Frank and Ruth Harmon of Oacoma, SD, and was one of 11 children. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Rika Langdeau Harmon on May 25, 1952.
Kenny served in the United States Army, stationed in Fort Knox in Kentucky and Camp Stewart in Georgia. While in the army, he serviced heavy tanks and was a Golden Glove member of the US Army Boxing team. Following his army career, Kenny worked construction in various states before he and Marilyn eventually settled in Lower Brule where they raised their beautiful family. Kenny had a great love for horses and was a long-time member of the South Dakota Race Horse Association, successfully training and racing several horses. When he wasn't on the track, he could usually be found in the rodeo arena, team-roping and participating in the rough stock events.
Kenny is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughters Sandra (Joe) Abdo, Mary Jane (Boyd) Gourneau, Kenna Theragood, Dena (Kelly Vosberg) Harmon, Jean Nahomni Mani Harmon, Karil Harmon; son John (Jodi) McCauley; 32 grandchildren; 67 great grandchildren; and 27 great great grandchildren; and siblings Donald (Liz) Harmon, James Harmon, Irene Harmon-Bunnell, and Anna June Harmon Schooler-McGuire..
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ruth Harmon; brothers Gene, Ralph, Charles, Glen, and Wayne Harmon; sister Alice Harmon-Hutmacher; grandbabies Kip Allan Kersting and Kyle Lee Two-Bulls; and great grandbaby Trinity Noel Tubbs.
