Graveside services for Keith Eugene Johnson, 77, of Chamberlain, SD will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at St. Alban's Episcopal Cemetery at Fort Hale Bottom, SD.  Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.

Keith Eugene Johnson was born in Brookings, SD on August 9, 1946 to Virginia Lorraine Kjenslee and Richard Julian Johnson. He attended school and graduated high school in Brookings, SD in 1964.  On January 31, 1966, while attending college at SDSU, Keith was drafted into the U.S. Army.

He met Katherine Kay Thompson in 1965 and shortly after his return from the Army, they were united in marriage on February 26, 1967 in the St. Alban's Episcopal Church on Fort Hale Bottom. To this union, a son was born.  They made their home at Fort Leonard Wood, MO for a time before Keith was deployed to Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam, they moved back to Reliance.  Keith was honored with the Bronze Star Medal for his heroic service in a combat zone.  We are grateful for his service.  During their 49 years of marriage, they ranched and lived most of their lives at Fort Hale.  His wife, Kay, passed away February 20th, 2016.

Keith passed away at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain on August 26, 2023 in Chamberlain, SD at the age of 77 years. Keith is survived by a son; a grandson Damon (Dayle) Johnson and their children, Zenyatta, Lawson, Kaden, and Berkley; a granddaughter Darian (Jaymison) Johnson and her sons Crash, Syllis, and Samwise. His brother James (Karla) Johnson of McCook, NE.; along with several other nieces and nephews.

Keith was preceded in death by his wife Kay Thompson Johnson; and parents Richard and Virginia Johnson.
