Funeral services for Kayleen J. LaRoche, 81, of Lower Brule, SD will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2024 at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Lower Brule with burial in the Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery at Lower Brule, SD.  Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Lower Brule, SD.

Anyone wishing to follow, the procession will leave at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday from the funeral home.

Kayleen Jean Big Eagle was born on August 11, 1942 at Chamberlain, SD to John Gilbert Big Eagle and Annie Bear.  She was raised in old Lower Brule, Fort George area.  She attended Flandreau Indian School in Flandreau, SD.

On December 12, 1966, she was united in marriage to Richard J. LaRoche and to this union five children were born Carol, Dorma (Heidi), Richard Jr., Lynette, and Cameron.

Kayleen worked various jobs in the community such as CHR, BIA Police dispatcher, daycare worker, and Golden Buffalo Casino Motel.  She soon decided to devote the rest of her time to raising her grandchildren.  In her eyes, they could do no wrong.  She will be greatly missed.

Kayleen entered the Spirit World on March 14, 2024 at her home in West Brule, SD at the age of 81 years among her family.

Gratefully sharing her life are her daughters Carol, Heidi, and Lynette; her sons Richard Jr. and Cameron; sisters Blanche, Pat, and Jeannie; her grandchildren Sattera, Shania, Stacey, Brooke, Sheena, Tevin, Cherish, Lucas, Sara, Brian, Trevon, Tashena, Kyra, Kellie, Kezzrae, and Samantha; and all her many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband Richard; mother Annie; father Gilbert; sisters Geraldine, Lynda, and Baunita; brothers Clayton, Jensen, Johnnie, and Scotty; grandsons Kevin and Darius Tremaine; great granddaughter baby Audrey Marie.
