Funeral services for Juanita L. World Turner, 68, of Fort Thompson, SD will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2026 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Thompson, SD with burial in Lakeview Cemetery at Fort Thompson, SD. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Thompson, SD.
Anyone wishing to follow, the procession will leave the funeral home on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
Juanita Louise Grey Owl-Onihan-Kennedy-World Turner was born July 27, 1957 to Kenneth Grey Owl and Cecelia Onihan.
She attended grade school at Fort Thompson, finished high school at Stephan where she graduated with the class of 1976.
She spent most of her life in Fort Thompson, SD with the exception of furthering her education at Dakota State University in Madison, SD. Her dream was to become a social worker and she lacked a few credit hours for her degree. She also made the Dean's List while in college.
On March 3, 1979, she married Rudolph D. Kennedy and to this union one child was born, Derek Kennedy. Rudy passed away on July 11, 1979.
She met Kenneth "Murph" World Turner in 1983. To this union, Jason, Valene, Jordan, and Casey were born.
Jordan and Valene predeceased her. Valene leaves behind three daughters, Madison, Kharmon, and Allyson Wells.
Juanita leaves behind Derek and grandchildren Jacob, Kaitlyn, Kaden, Kamden, Derek Jr., Kynlee, Ravyn, and Mateo. Jason, Caroline, Charles and Greyson World Turner of Watertown NY, Casey World Turner of Fort Thompson, SD; sisters Arliss, Doreen, Paula (Charlie), Janice; brothers Gordon And James; and many other friends and relatives.
Predeceasing her are her brothers Brandon, Gordon, and Lyndon along with her maternal grandparents Mabel Keeble and Lyman Onihan Sr., aunts Ruth Walking Bull, Mary Fire Cloud, Catherine Onihan, and Uncle Lyman Onihan Jr.
Juanita is an enrolled member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe and baptized into the Catholic Faith and becoming a catechism teacher. She also worked as a teachers aide at the Crow Creek Tribal School until her health started to fail. She battled diabetes all her adult life along with other illnesses.
She was a very strong resilient, proud, understanding, patient woman. Juanita loved beading, watching TV, practicing karate, singing, bingo, and being with her grandchildren.
She is loved by everyone who knew her. She will be missed and never forgotten by all who knew her.
