Funeral services for Joyce Larson, 90, of Mitchell, SD will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the Pukwana Free Lutheran Church, Pukwana, SD with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain, SD. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Pukwana Free Lutheran Church, Pukwana, SD or the Shriners Hospital.
Joyce Elaine Jacobs was born May 31, 1930 on a farm northeast of Corsica, SD to John H. and Lena M. (Hemeyer) Jacobs. She grew up near Stickney and graduated from Stickney High School in 1948. She received her teaching certificate from Southern State in Springfield, SD. She taught and substituted in rural schools and Headstart. For 21 years Joyce was a teacher's aide in the Chamberlain School District.
Joyce was united in marriage to Leland L. "Bud" Larson at the Kimball Lutheran Church on July 14, 1950. They made their home on a farm north of Pukwana until 1973 when they moved into Pukwana. Then in 2005, they moved to Mitchell, SD. Bud and Joyce were blessed with four children Leland John "Butch", Ladonna, Nova and Doris
Joyce enjoyed dancing, bowling, embroidery, puzzles, reading, and visits with family and friends. She was a long time member of Pukwana Free Lutheran Church where she served in many capacities.
Joyce Larson passed away on March 3, 2021 at Avera Brady in Mitchell, SD. She is survived by her three children Leland John "Butch" of Sioux Falls, Ladonna of Mitchell and Doris (Kim) Christiansen of Blaine, MN; son-in-law Jack Griss of Pukwana; five grandchildren Lee (Deann) Christiansen of Arlington, TX, Quinn (Adam) Driscoll of Eden Prairie, MN, Hallea (Patrick) Sundermann of Parker, SD, Paige (Alan) Jechort of St. Louis Park, MN, and Kyle (Miranda) Griss of Sioux Falls, SD; eight great-grandchildren Talon and Layton Griss, Graham and Rex Driscoll, Abby and Landon Christiansen, Piper and Finley Sundermann and two step great grandchildren Gavin and Annaleigh. She is also survived by her sister Joan Juntunen, and two sisters-in-law Vivian Jacobs and Connie Jacobs. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends were among the people she loved and enjoyed spending time with.
Preceding her in death were her husband Bud, daughter Nova, her parents, her mother and father-in-law John and Laurel (LaVoy) Larson, three brothers Vernon, Howard, and Ronald Jacobs, a sister Bernice Borman, brothers and sisters-in-law Donald Borman, Eldon Juntunen, Eugene and Evelyn Houska, Harold and Dorothy Merwin, Bill and Norma Dill, Dorothy Jacobs and Marcia Jacobs, four nephews Curtis and Rodney Houska and Robert and Erlin Juntunen, and two nieces Laurel Plane and Joann Stewart.
