Per his request, no services will be held for John W. Parker, 70, of Chamberlain.
John W. Parker was born June 17, 1949 at Chamberlain to James W. and Madalene M. "Dolly" (Webster) Parker. He attended grade school at Chamberlain. The family moved around with the construction of the dam before returning to Chamberlain where John graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1967.
On March 15, 1969, John was united in marriage to Sandy Stephens at Chamberlain. They made their home in Chamberlain where he began working for Sonny Doran. Starting in 1974, he worked for Bob Jurgenson at the Sheriff's Office in Brule County.
From 1977 to 1981, John moved the family to Omaha, NE where he worked at the Ming Center in the detailing department. Returning to Chamberlain, John began his law enforcement career retiring in 2013. He started his career in law enforcement with Brule County as a jailer and moved into the Dep. Sheriff position before moving over to the Chamberlain Police Department as a patrolman and retiring around 2003 as the Chamberlain Chief of Police.
John and Sandy then moved to Mitchell where he worked for the Mitchell Police Department in Animal Control until returning to Chamberlain in 2013. They made their home on the farm south of Chamberlain.
John enjoyed hunting and collecting guns.
John passed away on September 26, 2019 at home at the age of 70 years. Gratefully sharing his life are wife Sandy of Chamberlain; daughter Stephenie Parker of Chamberlain; son Rob (Janelle) Parker of Mitchell; and five grandchildren Kaz Gakin, Brooke Parker, and Derrick, Sheldon, and Shelby Brakke.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
