Memorial services will be held at a later date for Janet D. Rouillard, 79, of Lower Brule, SD.

Janet Diane (Garber) Rouillard passed away peacefully on March 10, 2022.  Janet was born May 8, 1942 in Pierre, SD to Clarence and Elma (Kizer) Garber.  Janet spent the early years of her life on the family farm north of Pierre.  She attended Sunnyside Elementary which was located near the farm and then went to high school in Pierre.

In 1959 she married Earl Sampson from this marriage she had 4 children (Brett, Dan, Shawn and Indira). In 1969 she married Theodore Rouillard and from this union there were 5 children (Traci, Toni, Duffy, Jason and Houston).  Through the years Janet also extended her love to other children in need (Rosalind/Franklin).

Janet was employed in a variety of areas. She had the honor of being one of the first female police matrons in Pierre, SD.  She liked to tell stories of being called in to assist with female suspects and victims.  She was also employed by the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, first as Daycare Director, then as Director of Elderly nutrition.  After leaving tribal employment she began doing in home daycare.  When she retired, she began to travel with her husband Ted.  She and Ted traveled from coast to coast and north to south, hitting as many casino's and horse tracks as Ted could work in.  A few of the highlights of these travels were meeting President Ronald Reagan and staying in the same hotel as President Bill Clinton.

Following Ted's death in 2006,  Janet's passion became her family, in particular her grandchildren.  She was known for telling all "What you need to do!"

She is survived by her children:  Earl Brett (Tory)-New Orleans, LA, Daniel (Michelle)-Vallejo, CA, Shawn Hoffman-Vermillion, SD, Indira Newell (Phil)-Lake City, FL, Traci Cuny-Sioux Falls, SD, Toni Rouillard-Lower Brule, SD, Duffy(Brook)-Sioux Falls, SD, Jason (Sandy)-Lower Brule, SD, Houston(DeAnna)-Lower Brule, SD and Rosalind Iron Shell (Daryl)-Mission, SD.  In addition, she leaves behind 32 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, as well as brothers Keith, Allen, Ron and Mark Garber and sister Donna Kavanaugh, also special friends Rodney Neiss, Darla Miller, Michael Jerde and confidant Martha Coleman.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Joseph Hoffman, and great granddaughter Kaylynn Weeks, foster son Franklin White Lark.
